Straight from the barrel

Nikka Whisky From The Barrel. This top prize winner at the World Whisky Awards in 2007 and 2010 is a Japanese blend with great floral scents hidden around the cask strength blend alcohol twinge of 51.4%. It reminds me of a spring morning breeze full of fully blooming flowers. Straight to the pallet I get a light fruitiness that gradually turns to spices followed by the development of oaky tannins. By adding a small drop or two of water, it brings out more layers such as vanilla and caramel. There is also a warm nuttiness that subdues the tannins until after you swallow. The finish is long and chewy, with sweet spices and a soft oak flavour that lingers enjoyably.
