An evening at the Jack Daniel's Master Class

Attending the Jack Daniel's Master Class during the Calgary Stampede was, sorry to say, typical and only somewhat entertaining. I found the Ambassador had to get a lot of information out before we could even try a sample. Waiting, listening and standing with that yummy aroma filling my nostrils was quite annoying. we were lined up with 6 different Jack Daniel's products in front of us. The selection included Gentleman Jack, Single Barrel, Old No.7, Jack Daniel's Honey and Jack Daniel's Fire. “Let us sample” it's why we are here, tons of facts, almost too much.

Being a lifelong whisky enthusiast I am very familiar with JD. It was a treat to finally indulge in a sample of each Gentleman Jack, Single Barrel and good Old No.7. Seeing the similarities and huge differences was great! Yummy vanilla, toasted notes and tropical fruits, yes tropical, bananas and pineapples with buttery thickness that warms you to the core. I loved Gentleman Jack the most; it's so smooth with strong wonderful flavors. A perfect balanced American sipping whiskey. Or put a little in your next BBQ sauce, oh man, its good!

The JD Honey was sugary and thick. Nosing it gave me a slight pain between the eyes, like a brain freeze or pending hangover. On my palette I found a nice honey taste with the traditional warming Jack Daniel's finish. If you're a honey liquor fan you might want to try it out. I favour the JD “Fire” over its honey cousin. It has a great cinnamon spice that’s fresher and smoother than the syrupy competition “Fireball”. The expected strong finish excites the tongue in more ways than one. It would be prefect in the winter time mixed with a hot coco and freshly baked ginger snap cookies to dip. Overall it was a good experience for the price if you're already a Jack fan.

Sláinte!
